Job Description
The Animal Medical Center of Mid America (AMCMA) is looking for an experienced Hospital Manager for our Maryland Heights veterinary hospital, who will be a valued resource for the Medical Director in all hospital operations. You will have an active role in decision-making responsibilities over the staffing and the business in general, and be supported with specialized teams in Marketing, Accounting, and Human Resources.
The position is fast-paced and is multi-faceted; our AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital offers digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, in-house laboratory, therapeutic laser, full-service dentistry, and a complete range of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. As part of the Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO), we serve animals from our shelters and the general public.
You will be responsible for:
- Supervise approximately 20 Veterinary Assistants and Registered Vet Technicians.
- Maintain an environment that is positive and engaging for employees while holding a high standard of care for our patients.
- Maintain strong working relationships with employees throughout the organization; collaborate and partner with others to maximize efficiency and idea generation.
- Assist with interviewing and making hiring decisions.
- Create work schedules – employees work 4 10-hour shifts, Monday through Saturday (the Practice Manager can choose between work 4 10's or 5 8-hour days).
- Ensure support staff compliance with established performance standards through accurate performance appraisals, coaching/training and corrective actions when necessary.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels of both medical and non-medical supplies, and approving invoices for the hospital.
- Partner with the Assistant Supervisor to create and maintain training, including cross-training in surgery.
- Work with our Call Center Supervisor to help maintain communication with scheduling or patient care coordination.
- Serve as a resource for clients in regard to concerns or problems regarding customer service, practice policies, non-payment and/or payment options.
- Work with the Sr. Practice Manager to maintain consistency on policies and protocols between locations.
- Investigate the circumstances around bites and other safety incidents to ensure that employees are properly trained and are acting safely.
- Assist with overseeing cleanliness/maintenance needs of hospital.
- Partner with the Medical Director to schedule and conduct staff/doctor meetings and staff events.
- Assist the Medical Director with the preparation and maintenance of necessary reports, records, policies and procedures as required by the State of Missouri, the DEA and the Humane Society of Missouri.
- Ensure compliance with AAHA Accredited Practice Medical Standards of Care and assists in maintaining AAHA Accreditation.
- Implement new protocols and policies as needed as discussed by the AMCMA management team.

Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a veterinary clinic practice manager or leadership role – if no prior experience as a practice manager, will be considered for a practice supervisor role.
- Being a Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of Missouri is preferred but not required.
- A bachelor's degree is a plus but not required.
- A successful track record of being able to motivate and retain employees.
- Great communication and listening skills.
- Ability to be flexible, empathetic and understanding of staff and client concerns.
- Willingness to be hands-on in training and have a physical presence in the clinic when needed.
- Must have a general knowledge of quality assurance and performance in veterinary medicine and be able to act in an advisory role to establish and supervise medical protocols in accordance with the standards of care as required by the Practice Act of the State of Missouri.
