Network Lab Engineer – Transport & IP

• OEMs Used: Cisco, Ciena for transport; Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Calix for routing
• Preferred Profile: Hands-on operational and troubleshooting-focused engineers — not a provisioning or order management role
• Experience with scripting (Python, Shell, Bash) for automation or data pulls
• Familiarity with protocol analyzers , optical meters, fiber cleaning tools
• Hands-on experience with test tools such as Spirent , Ixia , or similar platforms

Role Overview:

We are seeking a hands-on Transport Engineer for an Intelligent Edge Network Lab based in Richardson, TX. This is an onsite, lab-based technical role supporting production-like transport and routing testbeds used by enterprise IT, Planning, Engineering, and Operations teams.

Purpose:

You will build, maintain, and troubleshoot Layer 1–3 network environments , support new technology trials, and ensure smooth operation of advanced network test platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain Layer 1–3 testbeds (Transport + Routing)
• Troubleshoot lab environments , hardware setups, and network configurations
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors
• Install and maintain equipment: routers, switches, DWDM/ROADM gear, fiber
• Manage lab inventory and ensure systems are always available and operational

Must-Have Skills & Experience:

• Strong, hands-on experience with transport technologies:
• SONET, DWDM, ROADM, OTN, MPLS, Pseudowire
• Solid understanding of Layer 3 networking :
• BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, BFD, L2 Tunneling
• Experience with vendor equipment from:
• Cisco (NCS, ASR 9000, 4K/2K)
• Ciena 6500
• Juniper
• Nokia
• Calix
• Familiarity with lab environments and/or operational network troubleshooting
• Clear understanding of telecom/service provider architecture
• Strong collaboration, team communication , and documentation skills
