Our Opportunity: We are currently seeking a Managing Scientist with a focus in Water Resources, Agricultural, or Nutrient Management for our Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice in our Washington, DC office. Position locations in our Alexandria, VA, Bellevue, WA, Philadelphia, PA, Menlo Park, CA or Pasadena, CA offices will also be considered. In this role you will work as part of a team to provide technical support on existing projects and business development efforts in the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice. You will be responsible for strategic business development and client networking with the aim to grow a broad range of science and engineering technical services globally in water resources, agricultural, and nutrient management arena.
Understanding and interpreting water resources and land-use activities focusing on environmental issues including agricultural and nutrient management. Demonstrated understanding of relevant federal and state government regulations, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and production processes. Directing and supporting the conduct of analyses and preparing regulatory documents and expert reports. Synthesizing technical information and applying creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations. Developing and maintaining professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications, and participation in technical conferences and activities of professional societies. Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate.
You will have the following skills and qualifications: Ph.D. in Water Resources, Ecology, Agricultural Science, Engineering, or another related field. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years of direct consulting experience. Expert level knowledge of various land-use activities including agricultural science, soil science, crop and livestock management, water resources including irrigation practices, pest management, and nutrient management. Working knowledge of farming practices with a strong understanding of scientific sampling methodologies and the state-of-science on a broad range of terrestrial, wildlife, soil, and water quality issues. Proven experience with data analysis and statistics. Proven experience managing tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicate within multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications. Strong commitment to personal development and the development of staff.

Compensation: Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Manager level and above total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary. The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities, which will be assessed during the interview process. Salary Range USD $136,000.00 - USD $166,000.00 /Yr.
