Lab manager position for Steinmetz Lab at UC San Diego, Senior Research Associate Level 2, 3, 4

We are seeking to fill a Laboratory Manager position in the Steinmetz Lab at the University of California, San Diego. Research in our lab focuses on the development of plant virus-based nanotechnologies for applications targeting human and plant health. Our team ranges between 15-20 trainees at the post-doctoral and doctoral level in addition to 5-10 undergraduate researchers.

The position is offered as a full-time or part-time position.

Salary scale (as per UC San Diego pay scale)

SRA level 2: 60-72K    |    SRA level 3: 66-80K    |     SRA level 4: 73-87K

While the Lab Manager position is focused on management of the labs, equipment, and inventory, there will be ample of opportunity to get involved in research projects focusing on immunotherapies & vaccines as well as drug, gene, and pesticide delivery using in vitro cell culture, preclinical animal models, as well as plant systems.

A central part of this position is focused on Lab Management and tasks will include

• maintaining the lab, indoor greenhouse facilities, and tissue culture rooms
• supervising students and trainees
• ordering lab reagents and keeping inventory
• maintaining equipment and service contracts
• implementing standard operation procedures (SOPs)
• up-keep of health and safety records (IACUC, BUA, USDA permits)
• data management and assistance with grant reports  

Qualifications:

• BS or higher degree (MS, PhD, MBA) in subjects relevant to biomedical sciences (biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical/biological engineering), plants and horticulture, and management.
• Laboratory experience with basic and general techniques in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical/biological engineering, plant growth. Demonstrated skill to use standard lab equipment such as centrifuge, microscope, balances, etc.
• Good interpersonal communication skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility with students, staff, faculty, and visitors of various cultures and backgrounds.
