Today, We Are Looking For
The Economic Analyst is responsible for supporting the Partnerships mission primarily by gathering and analyzing economic, demographic, and social data; conducting various research studies; incorporating analysis into Partnership publications, press releases, web pages, and speeches, and responding to requests for information.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are essential to job performance: 
  • Monitor local, regional, national, and international economic, demographic, and policy trends.
  • Support the work of Public Policy in developing positions to be advocated by the Partnership.
  • Support the work of Economic Development in attracting jobs and investment to the region.
  • Support the work of Member Engagement in acquiring new members and retaining existing members.
  • Devise and evaluate methods and procedures for collecting data, such as surveys, opinion polls, or questionnaires, or arranging to obtain data from existing sources.
  • Maintain extensive spreadsheets and libraries of economic and demographic data.
  • Apply mathematical models and statistical techniques to social, demographic, and economic data.
  • Study industry trends and drivers key to the local economy.
  • Provide analysis and interpretation of Houston-specific and general industry trends.
  • Prepare reports of findings, illustrating data graphically, and translating complex findings into written text.
  • Develop new methods, processes, and publications for disseminating economic findings.
  • Conduct fiscal and economic impact studies for corporate relocations and major special events.
  • Establish strong relationships with peer-level economists and demographers, at the national, state, and local levels.
  • Represent the organization at various community and business meetings.
  • Update data for posting to the web, preparing proposals, and answering generic information queries.
  • Coordinate and participate in the collection of data for the C2ER Cost of Living Index, Houston Facts, Global Houston, Houston Economic Highlights, and annual Houston Outlook publications.
  • Prepare reports, and proposals for relocation prospects, including developing city-to-city comparisons of key economic and demographic indicators.
  • Brief staff and clients on the regions economy.
  • Develop background papers for Partnership executives to use when dealing with the media, members, governmental officials, investors, etc.
  • Create maps using a Geographic Information System.
  • Fact-checking publications, speeches, press releases, and web pages in areas of expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are desirable for job success:
  • Experience in economic analysis, market assessment, proposal writing, and information development required. Digital analytics is a plus.
  • Familiarity with local business issues (workforce trends, environmental quality, real estate development, regional mobility, transportation infrastructure, etc.) required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for statistical and detail-oriented work.
  • Ability to communicate complex economic concepts so they are easily understood by various audiences.
  • Ability and comfortability speaking to large audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability and maturity to manage projects and work with people at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • A professional appearance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and deadlines, with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to work some overtime, as necessary.
Education Requirements
Bachelors degree required, Masters preferred, in Real estate, Business, Marketing, Journalism, or Economics

Required Experience
3+ years professional experience, with increasing responsibilities, in real estate, marketing, business research, business journalism, economic analysis or similar environment preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Good vision and hearing acuity (with adaptive aids if necessary).
  • Manual dexterity and skillful use of computer keyboard.
  • Physical exertion includes bending, pushing, standing, and walking.  Must be able to move or lift approximately 25 pounds on occasion.
Mental and Aptitude Requirements
  • Job requires the ability to hear, see, and talk; analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, planning and decision-making skills.
