The Company is a leader in the solid waste collection, hauling, and disposal industry. The Fleet and Maintenance Manager is responsible for the Company’s fleet of over 100 trucks, yellow-iron, equipment, and other vehicles. The Fleet and Maintenance Manager promotes a proactive, efficient, and service-oriented program aimed at maintaining the Company’s fleet in peak operating condition. He/She provides management and hands-on direction to the Maintenance Team, including direct supervision of maintenance personnel. The Fleet and Maintenance Manager is responsible for replacement schedules, preventative maintenance and repair of Company vehicles, as well as administrative duties, such as parts procurement, inventory management, asset tracking, and cost control. The Fleet and Maintenance Manager utilizes fleet management and onboard computing software to monitor vehicle performance and cost.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Schedule and oversee all planned repair work to increase productivity and allocate resources appropriately.
  • Maintain an on-going preventative maintenance program, including, identifying trends in road calls, breakdowns, and maintenance needs.
  • Direct and coach the Maintenance Team to ensure that all maintenance and repairs are performed in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Supervise maintenance employees including coaching and counseling on performance and corrective actions as necessary. Render hiring/termination decisions in collaboration with HR and senior management.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and proper training of the Maintenance department. Identify maintenance employee training requirements and ensure successful completion.
  • Monitor the overall performance and efficiency of the Maintenance department and take appropriate actions to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Accountable for fleet and maintenance budget, including the control of maintenance costs, staff, purchasing, inventory, and outsourcing of repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with Company safety standards, as well as federal and state regulations, including maintenance and repair records and other required documentation.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems of heavy equipment and vehicles used by the Company, as well as compliance with changes to federal and state regulations.
  • Provide regular updates to the Executive Team and prepare management reporting as required.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of maintenance/mechanic experience or operational management experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Supervisor for a large fleet of vehicles or multiple site locations, or as a Fleet Manager for a medium to large fleet of heavy equipment and yellow iron.
  • Experience with and knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical systems, air brake systems, diesel engines, and vehicle computer diagnostics
  • Advanced experience working with fleet management and onboard computing software
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and passion for coaching, mentoring and training employees.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to manage to a budget
  • Experience working in the refuse industry strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other federal and local regulations and requirement
  • Excellent safety record
  • Valid driver’s license required, CDL preferred.
