Job Description

Just Right Reader is a forward-thinking curriculum provider committed to advancing literacy for students from Birth through 12th Grade. Our comprehensive resources are designed to support all learners, including upper-grade students requiring additional intervention to develop foundational skills. Grounded in the Science of Reading, our high-quality materials and tools equip educators with the support they need to accelerate achievement and foster lifelong readers.

Position Overview:

We seek a detail-oriented and innovative Foundational Literacy Curriculum Specialist (Pre-K–5) to lead the creation of engaging, research-based literacy products. This role requires expertise in early literacy pedagogy, curriculum design, and publishing practices. The ideal candidate combines strong writing and editing skills with classroom experience and a deep understanding of how children learn to read.

The Curriculum Developer will collaborate with product, editorial, design, and implementation teams to craft high-quality instructional resources-including decodable books, phonics lessons, teacher guides, and assessments-that align with evidence-based practices and meet the needs of diverse student populations.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum & Content Development

  • Design and develop instructional materials in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension for Pre-K–5.
  • Write teacher-facing guides, lesson plans, and student activities.
  • Sequence literacy skills to reflect a systematic and explicit progression of learning.
  • Ensure materials are developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and culturally responsive.

Instructional Design & Pedagogy

  • Apply the Science of Reading and evidence-based instructional frameworks.
  • Develop engaging, accessible content for diverse learners, including multilingual students.
  • Incorporate formative assessments to support and monitor student progress.

Collaboration & Project Management

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop print and digital literacy resources.
  • Review and provide feedback on manuscripts, page proofs, and prototypes for instructional accuracy.
  • Manage deliverables and timelines to ensure high-quality, on-time product launches.

Quality & Research Alignment

  • Align products to state standards, district frameworks, and literacy research.
  • Ensure content is bias-free and representative of students nationwide.
  • Stay current with literacy research and instructional trends to guide product development.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Literacy, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 5+ years of Pre-K–5 classroom teaching experience with expertise in foundational literacy instruction.
  • Strong knowledge of phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Experience in educational publishing or curriculum product development.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with UFLI, LETRS, or other structured literacy programs.
  • Knowledge of bilingual/dual-language literacy instruction.
  • Comfort with digital platforms and interactive learning design.
  • Demonstrated experience developing instructional content for publishing or edtech.

Preferred Traits:

  • Highly organized and proactive, able to manage multiple projects.
  • Collaborative and coachable, thriving in a team-driven environment.
  • Creative thinker who enjoys problem-solving and designing engaging learning experiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to instructional excellence.

Why Join Us:

At Just Right Reader, we're transforming how children learn to read. You'll be part of a passionate, growing team committed to educational equity, literacy innovation, and joyful learning.

  • Mission-driven company focused on improving literacy and education outcomes.
  • Collaborative and innovative work environment with opportunities for growth and development.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
