  • Salary: $140,000 – $180,000 (based on experience and qualifications)

A leading regional full-service law firm with a strong presence locally and growing has been expanding their practice and seeks a Bankruptcy Associate to support creditor's and lenders in Creditor's Rights legal matters and their broader Banking & Financial Services practice . This opportunity is part of the firm's multidisciplinary Banking and Financial Services , Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights , and Real Estate practice groups—offering exposure to complex transactional and restructuring matters. The team is led by experienced legal professionals, including Chair and Co-Chair Jeffrey M. Rosenthal, Esq., and emphasizes mentorship, teamwork, and client-focused representation.

Description:

This role is ideal for a mid-level associate seeking to broaden their legal experience across banking transactions, workouts, and commercial real estate deals, with hands-on exposure to bankruptcy and corporate M&A. The associate will be expected to play an integral role in negotiating and documenting asset-based and commercial loans, restructuring distressed assets, and supporting corporate and property transactions through due diligence and closing.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Bar admission in New Jersey required; New York admission preferred
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in at least two of the following: banking/finance law, bankruptcy, real estate transactions, or corporate law
  • Proficient with:
  • Loan documentation (asset-based, CRE, middle-market lending)
  • Workouts, forbearance agreements, and restructuring strategy
  • Bankruptcy filings, creditor representation, and plan negotiation
  • Due diligence in M&A and real estate transactions
  • Strong contract drafting and document review skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deals and deadlines in a hybrid work environment

Preferred Skills:

  • Representing financial institutions in secured lending transactions
  • Knowledge of UCC Article 9 and lender liability issues
  • Experience with Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings
  • Familiarity with real estate finance and title review
  • Experience advising on commercial leasing or acquisition financing
  • Corporate governance or transactional M&A support
  • Familiarity with legal tech tools such as DocuSign, iManage, or similar
